When your opponent activates a card or effect: You can return 1 Level 7 or higher monster you control to the hand; Special Summon 1 monster that mentions "Light and Darkness Ritual" from your hand, with a different name than the returned monster, ignoring its Summoning conditions. You cannot activate these effects of "Mind Shuffle" in the same Chain.
Mind Shuffle — Power Evaluation
Final Score: 53 ± 8 · Confidence: Medium
- Intrinsic: 51 · Deck: 53 · Meta: provisional
- Primary role: Searcher/Tutor · Secondary: Hand trap
Why it scores here
Mind Shuffle is a Continuous Trap, so its ATK-free body earns nothing on material or board. Its value is a once-per-turn deck-to-hand search for a Light and Darkness Ritual monster, paid for by discarding a card, plus a tempo response to opponent activations that returns a Level 7+ monster to Special Summon a Ritual-support monster from hand. Its observed presence in 9 of 9 recorded boards and 100% deck inclusion confirm that it is a practical, reliably accessible piece, but these frequencies did not raise the score; the combo examples show low structural power (9.3 average) with no role tags and no net card advantage.
Axis scores
| Axis | Score | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Accessibility | 68 | Searchable from the Deck during either player's turn, and it is in all 400 sampled decks, but the combo data does not tag it as a starter or searched piece (observed/verified). |
| Combo & Conversion | 35 | Its boards average a power index of 9.3, with examples reaching 24, 22 and 11 and no end-board or boss monsters; it converts into a ritual route rather than a full board (observed). |
| Resource Economy | 45 | The search is hand-neutral because the discard pays for it, but it moves one card from Deck to GY, and the examples show netCardAdvantage 0 (inferred from text, observed in combos). |
| Effect & Interaction | 40 | The opponent-activation effect is a Special Summon tempo response that returns a Level 7+ monster, not a negation or removal (verified from text). |
| Material Utility | 15 | A Trap card with no body of its own; it provides no material, so this axis is low (verified from card type). |
| Resilience & Flexibility | 55 | It is a Continuous Trap that stays on the field across turns and is useful in either turn, but it depends on being set and is exposed to backrow removal (inferred). |
| Deck-Building Efficiency | 60 | It runs 1 to 2 copies (average 1.65), has no garnet, and fits existing Ritual decks, but its text is locked to Light and Darkness Ritual monsters (verified/observed). |
Calculation
Weight profile: 0.7 Searcher + 0.3 Hand trap. Intrinsic ≈ 51, Deck ≈ 53, Meta = provisional. Modifiers: none. Final formula: 0.40*Intrinsic + 0.60*Deck
Strengths
- Deck-to-hand search for a Ritual-support monster, available in either turn
- Live in 400 of 400 sampled decks at 1 to 2 copies
- Low-cost, non-garnet slot that stays on the field across turns
- Second effect gives a hand-based tempo response to opponent activations
Weaknesses
- Ritual-archetype locked; no value outside Light and Darkness Ritual support
- Net zero card advantage in hand because the search is paid for by a discard
- No negation or removal; the opponent-activation effect is a Special Summon, not interaction
- Must be set before use and is exposed to backrow removal
- Requires a Level 7+ monster to return, which is a tempo cost
- Low structural combo power (9.3 average) in the recorded boards
Counters / choke points
- Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring is a common partner in these decks and can negate search effects (inferred from general card knowledge, not from the evidence)
- Backrow removal targeting the set Continuous Trap
Best use
Searcher/Tutor with a secondary hand-based tempo response for Ritual decks. Decks: Light and Darkness Ritual (archetype 2533), Light and Darkness Ritual (archetype 2470). Suggested copies: 2.
Evidence & gaps
- Verified: Effect 1: during either turn, add a Light and Darkness Ritual monster from Deck to hand, then discard 1 card, once per turn; Effect 2: on opponent's activation, return a Level 7+ monster you control and Special Summon a Ritual-support monster from hand; Present in 400 of 400 decks, average 1.65 copies, top-card rank 77 of 650
- Observed: Appears in 9 of 9 recorded combos, but with no role tags; Average combo power index 9.3; example boards show netCardAdvantage 0 and no end-board or boss monsters; Inclusion 70.9% in Light and Darkness Ritual (2533) and 61.1% in (2470)
- Inferred: The search is hand-neutral because it is paid for by the discard; Its opponent-activation effect is tempo only, with no negation; It is vulnerable to backrow removal while set
- Data gaps: No guides supplied No banlist token; assumed 3 copies (unlimited) Combo role_in_combo tags are empty, so starter/searched roles are unconfirmed No ruling data supplied for the set-then-activate timing of this Continuous Trap
